Congratulations to students S Staraityte and I Kelly who will represent Scoil Mhuire at Junk Kouture in The Helix in May with their costume Martine Mourning. Well done girls!<\/p>\n

“Marine Mourning <\/span>was<\/span> heavily inspired by the <\/span>18<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> century mourning dress. The designers feel <\/span>that the world should be in mourning as <\/span>an estimated <\/span><\/span>100 million<\/span><\/span> marine animals die each year from plastic waste alone<\/span>, materials were <\/span>inspired by common ocean pollution<\/span><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>The <\/span>colour<\/span> palette<\/span> for the design was inspired by Oil spills as the designers w<\/span>ere captivated by the shimmering <\/span>greens<\/span> and purples <\/span>yet <\/span>terrified<\/span> by the horrific <\/span>consequences<\/span>.<\/span> The designers <\/span>included<\/span> small marine themed accents for example the em<\/span>pty contact <\/span>lenses<\/span> cases designed to look like <\/span>fisheyes,<\/span> or the wire fish <\/span>fixed to the <\/span>hat.<\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
