Scoil Mhuire - The Student Council

Our student council began over 27 years ago and has grown from strength to strength with every passing year. The main aim of the Student Council is to allow students to voice their opinions and enhance student life.
The council consists of 24 representatives from each of the classes and are joined by the Head Girl and her Deputy. The 2015 committee is Emma Thornton Chairperson, Lucy Rennick Secretary, Maeve Hickey Treasurer, Debbie Awomolo PRO and ISSU officers Ciara Hanson and Emma Curran. Class representatives bring suggestions and report back to the students about the changes being made such as:
         • Purchasing picnic benches and water fountain
         • Providing financial support for school counselling service
         • Upgrading school uniform

The Student Council joined the ISSU (Irish Secondary Level Students Union) in 2011 and are now connected to a wider community. This provides a wider forum for discussing student life and thereby improving it.

The council also supports various charities including our local MS Centre, the Marie Keating Foundation, the Hope Animal Shelter and the Saint Vincent De Paul.
