Dear Parents/Guardians,

I wish to inform you that directives have been issued by the ASTI and TUI in relation to teachers commencing Work to Rule. ASTI members have commenced Work to Rule from today, 5th October 2026, while TUI members will commence Work to Rule from Monday, 12th October 2026.

I would like to reassure Parents/Guardians that teaching and learning will continue as normal during the school day. The industrial action does not affect the delivery of classroom teaching or the day-to-day learning of our students.

As part of this industrial action:

Teachers have been directed not to attend formal Parent/Teacher meetings which take place outside of normal school hours. As a result, our Parent/Teacher Meeting scheduled for Thursday, 15th October 2026 may be affected by the planned industrial action and may need to be postponed. We will provide Parents/Guardians with further information as soon as it becomes available and will communicate any alternative arrangements in due course.

Teachers will not take or make telephone calls to Parents/Guardians or other outside agencies during the period of industrial action.

Teachers will not monitor or respond to emails or other electronic communications from Management, Parents/Guardians or outside agencies.

We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience and would ask Parents/Guardians to please take note of the following arrangements.

Attendance and Punctuality
Parents/Guardians should continue to use the school journal to provide information regarding:

Absences – for a full day’s absence.

Lates – for the late arrival of a student.

Permission to Leave – where a student needs to leave school early for an appointment.

Please also note that the ASTI and TUI have instructed their members to participate in one-day strikes on Wednesday, 14th October 2026 and Wednesday, 21st October 2026, respectively.
Consequently, Scoil Mhuire will be closed on these days unless the instruction to strike is withdrawn.

If there are any changes to these arrangements, or if further information becomes available, we will communicate this to Parents/Guardians as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this period.

Kind regards,

David McCormack
