Basketball is an up and coming sport here in Scoil Mhuire. Each year we are improving and getting further in the competition thanks to the skill and dedication of the girls on the team. We enter the “C” Division North East schools basketball competition every year and there are four teams within the school. Cadettes U16 & Seniors U19, 1st & 2nd Years. Senior and Cadette games always happen from the start of the year in September through to Christmas. Then the 1st and 2nd Year matches begin in January through to Easter. A lot of the girls on the teams had never played Basketball before joining in 1st Year so it is open to everyone from when you first come to the school. The schools we play against are from all around the region, Dunboyne, Navan, Drogheda, Dundalk, Nobber and Carrickmacross.
Last year we got through to some semi-finals at a round robin tournament to play various schools for runners up in the groups. The 1st and 2nd Year teams thoroughly enjoyed this day and the lead up to it.
All of the skills for Basketball are cross transferable between most invasion games, so if you’ve played any sport at all Basketball is for you. As soon as you come to the school make enquiries and come join us or at least look out for when the try-outs are happening. Look forward to seeing you.
