Scoil Mhuire would like to thank Ms Paulina Kappes for her great contribution to our school community this year as she gets ready for her return to Germany. She worked tirelessly throughout her time with us with our students and teachers in a collaborative way.
Paulina organised a new eTwinning partnership with Gymnasium Engen in Baden-Württemberg and their teachers Ms Liliana Hahn and Mr Florian Dold. All TY German students in Scoil Mhuire have got an online German partner from Engen and they have been working together on the topic “Facing an insecure future – German and Irish students discuss their hopes and visions”.
About the project
Phase A – The Transition Year and its goals (the Irish Students present their school) + presentation of the German Mittel- and Oberstufe (the German students present their school)
Phase B – Topics for discussion: living in a digital world (remote lessons, social media), facing a global pandemic, making a difference: Fridays For Future, …
AIMS
-improving communicative skills by sending and reading messages, making videos and presentations
-widening one’s vocabulary
-reflecting upon intercultural challenges
WORK PROCESS
- First step – group videos presenting the two groups; students send each other questions and receive answers
2. Second step – Tandems are formed; they get to know each other and work progressively on various assignments
3. Third step – Students present their first results to each other: video conference
4. Fourth step – Tandems find their own little project to be realized in both countries and write a blog about it (e.g., Interviews at school, polls, joint research, …)
This is the second eTwinning project our school is involved in. The first project is part of our Erasmus+ KA229 project on sustainability called “Greener ways to a better future” and we will be now applying for the certificate “eTwinning Quality Label” for Scoil Mhuire.
Ms Kappes worked with our TY students in liaison with Mr Kajic (link teacher) and Ms Doherty, with our LC students on preparation for the LC Orals in liaison with Mr Kajic and our Junior Cycle students in liaison with Ms Moran and Ms O’Callaghan. Her work with the staff, school management and students was very valuable and we are hoping to meet her again when this pandemic in over. We wish her all the best for her future.
