Congratulations to Transition Year students A Cracium, M O’Connor, C Coyle, S Killian, A M Flynn and their teachers Ms Casserly, Ms Deighan Flynn and Ms Naughton on reaching the finals of the Relove Fashion competition 2023.
A `piece of old Hollywood glamour` was how the judges described this fabulous creation which was made from an old duvet cover! The judges were impressed by the wearability of the outfit, the excellent sewing skills and the fact that the students used a 50-year-old vintage pattern from the collection in the Home Economics’ sewing room.
Congratulations also to the following students whose wonderfully creative entries made it to the semi-finals of the competition-A Mc Vann, A McCabe, E O’Neill, M Canny, O Reilly, A Ní Laoire, A Morton, É Moran, L Murphy and S Mohamed.
The Relove Fashion Competition encourages students to take a deeper look at how their clothing is made and challenges them to explore creative reuse options such as upcycling, repairs, alterations, and mending.
The Home Economics Department choose the Relove Fashion competition for TY students this year in response to the growing environmental and social impacts of the Fast Fashion Industry and the need for change. All TY students are to be commended on how they fully embraced this project, sourcing preloved clothing and textiles from parents, grandparents and teachers. We look forward to continuing this project in TY Home Economics next year because sustainable fashion is not a trend, it is the futur
