The 2B CSPE class is running a swap shop to show how we can help the planet by encouraging clothing reuse and moving away from fast fashion (which is the mass production of cheap, trendy clothes designed for minimal usage and often leads to high levels of waste and pollution which harm our environment).

We received training from 2 separate groups in the run-up to organising this event – Kieran Allen from Education for Sustainability visited our 2B CSPE class over a 2 week period in early February to look at Fast Fashion and how we can work to tackle this issue. Then on Wednesday March 4th Emily Briggs from Eco Chic did a workshop with us on how to actually run a Swap Shop.

Our system works on a ‘one-for-one’ basis, students earn one token per donated item, which acts a substitute for money when selecting new items. Remaining clothes will be donated to a local charity, ensuring these pre-loved items have a second chance to be treasured by someone else.

All clothes donations must be clean and in good condition.

The swap shop will be held in the study hall where all the clothes will be hung on rails and accessories (hats, scarves etc) will be laid out on tables. Volunteers from the Well-being team, Student Council and CSPE class exchange clothes for tokens and work at the check-out.

The first swap will take place on Tuesday 10th of March – during the 6th year International Women’s Day event.
