The spirit of giving, helping and generosity is very much alive in Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Trim. Over the past number of months, student groups have raised over €4,100 collectively for local and national charities. With guidance from their teachers and using their own talents, initiative and imagination, students from all year groups in the school organised various fundraisers to help those in need.

The school’s Student Council raised funds and awareness for Barnardos through a poster competition and the school’s annual Christmas concert. In total, the Student Council raised an impressive €1,322 for Barnardos.

The 5th and 6th LCA students held two events to raise money for the Laura Lynn Foundation, including a Halloween coffee morning for the staff and a Christmas bake fair. All in all, they raised a fantastic amount of €550 for the charity

In December, our school band Gluais ran their annual Christmas Show in aid of Meath Autism Network, raising an incredible €1,760 for the local charity. The sold-out concert was held in the Castle Arch Hotel with many members of the charity in attendance on the night to make it extra special. Needless to say, they were blown away by the support & generosity.

A TY Young Social Innovators team of seven girls ran their fundraiser in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland, a charity which is at the heart of their research and project. They ran a pink themed bake sale in January to raise money. As part of the project, fellow Transition year students and teachers donated baked or brought goods for the sale. The event was welcomed with huge enthusiasm from all members of Scoil Mhuire, as it was the biggest bake sale this year! On January 27th, Dympna Sharpe from Breast Cancer Ireland visited Scoil Mhuire to speak to the 120 TY students, dispelling the myths, establishing the facts, and giving guidelines on the correct self-examination procedure. The proceeds of the Bake Sale amounting to €500 were presented to Dympna who was impressed by such an incredible donation for a truly worthy cause.

Well done to all members of the Scoil Mhuire school community for their generosity, including staff, students and families.
